News You Can Use – Pain Relief of All Kinds

Hi everyone!

A quick update to let you know about the latest new things on our website right now, each of which will help you with workout pain (either via chemicals, pressure, or laughter… you totally want to know more, don’t you!?):

  1. Endorphins – are they real, and should you care? (Check under Healthy Mind on our site.)
  2. Your love/hate relationship with a foam roller. (Check under Healthy Body.)
  3. Photos! Several new BAM and BIT (BAM In Training… these are the kids of BAMs) photos have been added to the gallery.

News You Can Use – Dear BMI & Dear BAMmy

A quick update to let you know about 2 awesome new things on our website right now:

  2. A brand new page called “Dear BAMmy.” Think of it as the BAMstrength version of Dear Abby. You won’t want to miss it! Look in the menu bar above and click Dear BAMmy to read all about it!

Welcome to BAMstrength!

September. It’s a month that feels fresh with possibility. Blank pages, fresh boxes of crayons, a new class schedule, an empty dorm room waiting for its new residents to bring it to life. It feels like reinvention is just part of the season.

Here at BAMstrength headquarters, we are feeling it too.

It started as a quiet question a few months ago: Who are we? Who do we want to be? What is the core of BAMstrength and how do we want to grow? What just isn’t working? What can we do better?

We’ve done some soul searching and here is what we know for sure about BAMstrength:

  • We are a group of hilarious, smart women who are interested in engaging their bodies, their minds, and their spirits.
  • We care. Whether it is raising money for charity or reaching out to a friend on a bad day or cheering for a BAM who is racing/job interviewing/sick/caring for others, reaching out and encouraging each other is in the very fabric of our beings.
  • This funny little community we’ve built (#WeMetOnTwitter) has grown in unexpected and wonderful ways, spawning real life friendships among powerful women.
  • It can be hard to explain the magic of BAMstrength to friends and family, but we want to share the love.

Also clear: it was time to be honest with ourselves about the monthly challenges. As much fun as they have been for us to dream up, only a fraction of our group has actually been joining in the challenges each month. In many respects, this is actually great news–it means so many BAMs have their own fitness plans which made adding our challenges into their days…well, a challenge. So that needs to change.

We can still be a community without doing a monthly challenge together.

The obvious next question, though, is: Where does that leave us?

The first stage of BAMstrength’s reinvention will be our new and improved website, which you’ve obviously found if you are reading this. We are brimming with ideas for delivering you encouragement and inspiration, which we will begin to roll out in the coming months. There will be profiles and tips from kickass women, including our very own BAMs. There will be posts focused on ways to grow our bodies, our minds, and our spirits. (And of course, there will always be Twitter, home of the original BAMstrength mash up and virtual flash mobs of love and support for each other.)

Here is where you come in.

BAMstrength has always been about community. So if you have something you want to share, we want to hear from you. Tell us how you worked your way back from an injury or illness. Or how you made one small change to your mindset that made all the difference. Or how you kept your sanity while caring for an elderly parent. Or stuck to your resolution (or didn’t, but survived anyway).

Your stories are part of what makes us who we are, and we want to help you tell them. So please don’t be surprised if you hear from Ruth, Linda, or Sarah in the coming months, asking if you’re willing to share a little more. We have been so inspired by YOU in these last two years and know that there is so much we can learn from each other.

We are also hoping that this new season of BAMstrength will make it easier to share the BAMlove with your friends. BAMstrength has always been in the business of being inclusive. There is no secret handshake or membership fee. You don’t need to look like a fitness model or have your life together to be a BAM. All it takes is kindness, a sense of humor, and heart. You all have revealed yourselves to have that in spades. Our hope that our new focus will make this tsunami of love and badassery accessible to more women who are craving the kind of community BAMstrength offers.

So welcome to a new season of BAMstrength and our new internet home. Have a look around. We haven’t moved in all the furniture yet and we’re still picking artwork for the walls, so please come back often to check on our progress. And if you have some ideas of what you’d like to see here, we’d love to hear from you!
